Reflexology Therapy

About Reflexology Therapy (available with or without hot stones)

Reflexology is a natural and holistic therapy using specific techniques of massage and pressure points on the feet which stimulates the glands, organs and tissues in the entire body (similar to similar to the meridians in acupuncture/ acupressure).

Reflexology is safe, non-invasive, effective and natural with virtually no side effects. There are ongoing clinical studies about the positive effects of Reflexology for wellness as well as illness. Reflexology originated in China and Egypt and has been used by Asian cultures for thousands of years.

Reflexology Can Help:

* Decrease Anxiety & Promote Relaxation
* Promote Better Sleep
* Increase Circulation
* Helps Cold Hands & Feet
* Assist with Healing
* Balance Energy
* Boost the immune system
* Stimulate the liver and kidneys and other glands, and help rid the body of toxins
* Reflexology has a history of helping these conditions: headaches, arthritis, sinus problems, digestive problems, insomnia and depression.

How Does Reflexology Work?

Reflexology promotes relaxation and relieves stress through the Reflex points of the feet that correspond to systems of the body. By massage and light-to-medium pressure on those reflex points, the associated glands, organs and systems are stimulated. These cells receive more blood supply, more oxygen and the lymphatic system assists the immune system by removing toxins and cellular waste. Reflexology has been shown to release endorphins – the ‘feel good’ hormones.

Reflexology also works to open and balance the subtle energy channels of the body (your ‘Chi’) that have been known in Oriental Medicine for thousands of years.

Most people hold stress somewhere in their body. One of the goals of Reflexology is to relieve stress and tension that may interfere with circulation and the natural flow of the body’s energy.

Medical science now recognizes that stress is a leading factor in many diseases and that stress contributes to and aggravates many existing conditions – irritable bowel (IBS), stomach problems, indigestion, headaches, fibromyalgia, back pain, chronic fatigue, arthritis, and dozens of others. Research has also shown that deep relaxation contributes to wellness and a stronger immune system. Reflexology and other holistic therapies are powerful ways to manage stress, achieve deep relaxation, balance the body systems, maintain a healthy lifestyle and prevent illness.

Foot Reflexology – feels fantastic on tired, sore or achy feet. AND will relax your entire body!

Reflexology and massage causes your body to release chemicals called endorphins, which are called the “feel good” hormones.
Foot Reflexology sessions include the feet, heels, ankles, Achilles tendon and lower legs.

Reflexology for Hands – This is an excellent therapy if you:

  • Do computer work or repetitive tasks with your hands
  • Have symptoms of carpal tunnel
  • Experience pain in your hands
  • Have arthritis in the hands

Hand Reflexology sessions include the hands, fingers, wrists and arms.

Hot Stone Reflexology — a unique blend of reflexology and hot stone therapy with Therapeutic Essential oils. Each session is customized for your needs. Can include legs & feet, hands & feet or hands, wrists and arms.

In Reflexology sessions you remain fully-clothed except for your feet. Please wear very comfortable loose clothes (t-shirt and shorts or loose, comfortable pants).

Who Can Benefit From Reflexology

  • Senior Citizens
  • Active people
  • Anyone with foot pain
  • Those with Plantar Fasciitis, Heel spurs
  • People who are on their feet all day

  • Anyone who wants to relax and feel great!

Reflexology is particularly beneficial for senior citizens as it gently helps improve circulation to hands, feet and the entire body. Reflexology can also help specific foot conditions like heel pain, swelling, plantar fasciitis, and peripheral neuropathy.

He Suffers from Peripheral Neuropathy…..
“I have peripheral neuropathy of the legs and feet which causes numbness in the legs and burning with alternating cold sensations in my feet. Although I am on medication, the blood flow to my legs and feet is not satisfactory. The hot stone massage and reflexology I get from from Mary definitely helps to warm up and increase the blood flow to my legs and feet. Even though my condition is incurable, Mary’s hot stones for massage with reflexology gives me some relief from pain and poor blood flow. It creates a sense of general well-being which is welcome relief.”

Ahh-Shiatsu!

Do You Like Medium or Deep-Tissue Massage?
Then you’ll LOVE
Ahh-Shiatsu Massage Therapy

Deep Relief
Everyone holds tension in their body. The chronic worry, stress, rush, noise, fast pace tension in our world causes stress at a deep level of body and mind. This stress is mostly unconscious and most people are unaware of it, however it still affects them. The chronic deep muscle tension patterns that we all carry may have been there for weeks, months, years or even decades!

This tightness and tension affects not only the fibers of the muscles, but the nervous system, the energy flow of the body, the posture and alignment. Tension and rigid muscles can block or reduce the function of vital energy movement in the body, along the energy pathways. Ahh-Shiatsu helps the entire body as the deeper levels of pain, rigidity and stress are released. People often say they feel deeply relaxed, ‘more aligned’ and feel they have better posture after just one session.

Ahh-Shiatsu combines specific pressure point therapy, myofascial release, deep tissue massage, trigger point therapy, and Connective Tissue massage with therapeutic medium to deep tissue compression and pressure to ease out knots, kinks and tension at the deeper levels of muscle. This unique work is applied to all muscular areas of the back, hips, legs, feet, arms, shoulders, chest using slow and firm pressure that feels so good (NEVER painful & always to your comfort level).

Wondering if You Could Benefit? Call me at 970-204-1794 for a free consultation

What to Wear for Ahh-Shiatsu Therapy
~ Ahh-Shiatsu massage is done on a comfy floor mat (thick futon).
~ No lotion or oil is used.
~ Please wear very comfortable clothes (cotton t-shirt & shorts or sweat pants). Please do NOT wear slippery nylon clothes, no jeans, fitted pants or button shirts – no buttons, no zippers.

I achieve deep pressure to your comfort level with special techniques with my stocking feet. Ahh-Shiatsu is excellent for sore muscles or just because it feels so good! You’ll feel the difference.

How It Works
‘Ashi’ means foot and ‘shiatsu’ means pressure. Ahh-Shiatsu Therapy is a specialized massage done with the therapist’s feet. It opens energy along the meridian lines of the body. More pressure can be applied through Ahh-Shiatsu than can be achieved on a massage table. This facilitates a deep muscle flush, stretching of the deeper muscles and tendons, deeper relaxation of the muscles and nervous system, and increased flexibility. Ahh-Shiatsu releases lactic acid, toxins and metabolic waste at deeper levels than table massage. It also releases deep trigger points (hyper-irritable muscle spots), and deeper muscle adhesions that impair full muscle range and function. It helps lengthen and release tight and short muscles and tendons to a more natural state. It assists with deep blood circulation and movement of lymph fluids.

This therapy is effective and safe for most people who are healthy and active. Ah-Shiatsu therapy combines techniques of pressure point and trigger point work to ease out knots and relieve deep muscle tension – great for sore muscles or just because it feels so good!

Ahh-Shiatsu Therapy is restorative at a deep level, improving muscle alignment, circulation and relieving pain.

Just like anything else, it is not for everyone — see the list below for the conditions that are not suitable for this kind of therapy.

Ahh-Shiatsu is particularly beneficial for the core stabilizer muscles of the back, waist, low back, hips, glutes, IT band, leg and hamstring muscles. It helps stretch the vertebrae, particularly in the low back and helps open the hips. These large muscle groups are responsible for the core support and alignment of the body. Ahh-Shiatsu helps them relax and realign as the deep tension is released.

It also feels great on the upper back and gets that tight spot between the shoulder blades. It relieves tight muscles of the shoulders, neck, arms, wrists, hands, lower legs and feet. The pressure is as deep or light as feels good to you and is always customized to your specific needs at that time, your comfort level and flexibility.

Other Benefits
Ahh-Shiatsu does more than relieve tight muscles. It also helps to gently stretch and re-align the muscles, joints, tendons and ligaments. It relieves deep muscle spasms and pain and it can release tightness and adhesions in the fascia, which may be due to inactivity, chronic stress or scar tissue. In Ah-Shiatsu therapy toxins are flushed out of the muscles at a deep level, and blood circulation is increased.

You will feel deeply relaxed. The muscles feel better and ‘clearer’. Joints feel better as the surrounding muscle tension is released. Ahh-Shiatsu helps the immune system by increasing lymph flow (the cleanser of the immune system) detoxify the body. Finally, Barefoot Ahh-Shiatsu helps open the energy channels in the body.

Over several sessions you will notice increased relaxation, flexibility, openness and range of motion. It is never painful, but feels so good and sometimes ‘hurts so good’ as soreness, deep tension and toxins are released.

In these sessions, I integrate the root teachings of Oriental therapies, Therapeutic Deep Tissue Massage, Acupressure, and a reverent spiritual practice. This special massage technique of Ahh-Shiatsu requires experience and thorough knowledge of anatomy and physiology as well as knowledge of meridians and energy pathways.

Ahh-Shiatsu is a safe and effective therapy for many people. If you are generally in good health and like medium to deep tissue massage it can be of great benefit to you. However, it is not suitable for certain conditions that are contraindicated – which means you should never have this therapy if you currently have or have had:

History of Ahh-Shiatsu
Ah-Shiatsu is an ancient therapy has been practiced by healers and monks in Asia for over 3,000 years. It was practiced as a healing and restorative therapy to relieve pain and balance the Chi. This modality evolved through the cultures of Tibet, China, India, Thailand, the Philippines and Japan. Today, there are many different styles of Ah-Shiatsu practiced around the world in both East and West.

Like all other forms of Asian Medicine and Bodywork, (martial arts, yoga, Ayurvedic, acupuncture, Thai massage, Reflexology, etc.) Ahh-Shiatsu focuses on the whole person and the balance of the body’s vital energy known as Chi. Ah-Shiatsu causes relaxation through the release of deep tension and the release of endorphins (the “feel good” hormones). As deep-level tension is relieved, the body can return to balance and the normal flow of vital energy for health and wellness. It is recognized as an effective therapy for chronic back and neck pain and relieves joint pain.

Massage Cupping Therapy

About Cupping Therapy
Cupping Therapy has been a documented part of TCM – Traditional Chinese Medicine for over 1,000 years to address various imbalances and pain in the body. From the TCM perspective, stagnation of blood and Chi/ Qi in the tissues causes inflammation and pain and cupping therapy can restore normal circulation, blood flow and Chi to the local area.

In recent years there has been renewed interest in cupping therapy after successful use by many Olympic and professional athletes to reduce pain and inflammation and enhance athletic performance. In the 2016 Olympic games, many top swimmers and athletes had visible red circles on their back and body from cupping therapy for recovery. Many celebrities and fashion models have sought out cupping therapy for its benefits for health and wellness.

Cupping therapy has been performed by many licensed acupuncturists in the traditional uses of this modality. Outside of TCM, cupping therapy should be performed by a trained professional like a physical therapist or licensed massage therapist who understands anatomy, physiology, the flow of lymph and chi in the body. Contraindications and cautions for cupping should always be taken into consideration.

Massage Cupping therapy uses silicon cups to provide gentle traction and suction to the soft tissue. The goal is to reduce pain and restore better circulation and function to the muscles and joints. I combine massage cupping therapy with massage therapy to help you feel better.

Benefits of Massage Cupping Therapy

  • Increases circulation to the local area for better cellular repair and healing to the local area
  • Promotes better lymph drainage (removal of stored toxins) for cellular repair
  • Increases nutrients and oxygen to the muscles and soft tissue for better function
  • Relieves tension and stagnation in the muscles, facia and connective tissue
  • Helps relieve pain of arthritis
  • Helps release toxins in the muscles that cause inflammation and pain
  • Helps reduce stiffness and prevent muscle cramps and improve mobility
  • Helps reduce swelling, scar tissue, congestion and pain by draining excess fluids and increasing new circulation and lymph to the area.
  • Helps recovery from injury
  • Helps reduce adhesions (when tissue is stuck together) and scar tissue in the muscle tissue
  • Helps tone and firm skin by improving circulation and blood flow
  • Helps increase the flow of Chi to the area and helps removes blockages that restrict Chi
  • Works well with massage therapies to remove stagnation from the deeper layers in the muscle tissue
  • Helps improve immune function
  • Can help improve digestion
  • Helps promote a physiological relaxation response in the body as muscle tension is reduced
  • Natural way to reduce pain and congestion
  • Helps you feel better!

Contraindications (when cupping should not be used)

  • Bleeding disorders, hemophilia or if you bleed easily
  • Are taking Coumadin, heavy doses of aspirin or any type of blood thinner (like Coumadin)
  • Any conditions of skin inflammation
  • Skin infection, bruising, rash or irritation, including sunburn
  • Injury, wounds, stitches
  • Surgical removal of lymph nodes
  • Severe swelling (edema) in cases of kidney disorders
  • Cancer, diabetes or other condition requiring medical care
  • During pregnancy
  • Recent strain, sprain, injuries, fracture or broken bones
  • Aneurysm, brain tumor, history of stroke or TIA
  • Liver and Kidney disorders
  • Impaired circulation of any kind
  • Have a heart condition or congestive heart failure
  • Have had recent surgery of any kind
  • Moderate to severe arthritis
  • Severe scoliosis, ruptured spinal disc or spinal fusion

How Does it Work?
Cupping therapy works by raising and expanding the tissues with suction and vacuum to create space for new cells, nutrients and lymph fluids for faster recovery. This opens the tissues and allows lymph fluid and blood circulation to enter and leave the area of injury, tension or pain. When used appropriately, cupping can be very effective to remove toxins and cellular waste from the deeper levels and reduce the incidence of muscle cramps and spasms.

I am a trained and certified cupping practitioner. My training was approved by the National Certification Board for therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB).

How I Use Massage Cupping Therapy to Help You Feel Better!
Cupping is considered a safe practice when used appropriately by a trained practitioner. In my massage therapy practice I incorporate cupping therapy with essential oils and various massage techniques. Static cups are placed on areas of pain or discomfort for 1-3 minutes. Moving cups will be used with massage oil in a sliding technique on the tissues that really helps reduce tension and pain in the area.

Side-effects after Cupping Therapy
When used appropriately by a trained and licensed practitioner, massage cupping therapy has few side effects. There can be mild soreness during or after cupping therapy depending upon the level of stagnation in the tissues. The most common side-effect of cupping are red circular marks on the skin that are temporary. These marks are not bruises but show a positive result of increasing blood & circulation to the area being cupped. The cupping marks are generally not painful and will generally fade in a few days.

Sound Meditation with Tibetan Singing Bowls

Tibetan Singing Bowl Sessions
Special – 1 Hour – only $40

In these sessions you will remain fully dressed and recline on my comfy massage table with a light blanket if needed.

During a session the singing bowls are placed all around your body, at your feet and head. Smaller bowls may be placed on your chest or stomach.

The bowls are struck and played in certain vibrational patterns depending on where the energy blockage (sometimes manifested as pain) is located. You will not only hear the sound but feel it in your body.

Please wear very comfortable loose clothing – no tight jeans or button shirts.

Sound Waves Actually Change the Brain
Sound is a form of energy medicine that creates a calm space for healing from stress, pain, and our emotional roller coaster.

Sound Therapy helps with stress management by actually changing the frequency of the brain and nervous system. We know that sound actually changes the vibrations of your cells and so influences the vibration of the whole body, not only on the biological level but the emotional, mental and Spiritual level as well.

Beautiful music, the sound of a waterfall, babbling brook, waves on the beach, the wind in the trees, nature sounds, bird calls and singing bowls – relax and calm us. Those sounds nourish, balance and align the vibrations of the brain and nervous system.

Noise Causes Stress!
There is so much noise in our modern world. Loud noise, the sounds of daily life, even that annoying rattle in your car affect us. Excess noise and ‘negative’ sounds are not only irritating to the ear but negatively affect the nervous system causing feelings of more stress, nervous tension, anxiety and discomfort, headaches, stiff muscles and tight chest and breath. Constant noise affects all of us and contributes to stress, even if we are not consciously aware of the effect. People who are more sensitive, babies, children, people with depression, anxiety, those with illness or high stress in their lives feel negative sounds at an even greater level. Everyone is affected at the cellular level, even people who cannot ‘hear’ these sounds.

By working in a positive way with sound vibrations we can change our body, mind and Spirit to a more relaxed and state of relaxation and harmony. The normal frequency of our brain waves in the waking state is Beta frequency. The sound waves of Tibetan Singing Bowls and other types of sound therapy harmonizes the body-mind to deeper brain wave frequencies — Alpha and Theta brain waves – that bring a feeling of peace, relaxation and clarity of mind, relaxation to the body, meditative states and intuition. These peaceful vibrations entrain your brain and nervous system to release stress and anxiety and bring you to a feeling of serenity and peace.

About Singing Bowls
Sacred Singing Bowls have been used by Tibetan Monks for many thousands of years for removing energy blockages and aligning the Chakras, stress reduction, balancing the energy and opening the Heart. The vibrational resonance and harmonics resonate deep within the body and mind. The brain and nervous system synchronize with the beautiful vibrations, bringing calm to your mind, balancing the energy centers and transporting you to a feeling of serenity and peace. The entire body feels calmer, the breath becomes slower, deeper, the blood pressure and heart rate are reduced to a state of calm and tranquility.

There is a long history of singing bowls used in Tibetan Medicine to achieve deeper states of meditation and relaxation and promote healing.

These sacred bowls were hand made by Asian monks with the traditional combination of seven sacred metals. Each metal is used for a very specific Vibrational purpose.

After a Singing Bowl Session, people report deep states of calmness, relaxation, sometimes receiving clarity on specific questions or issues, sometimes feeling a renewed and deeper connection to themselves and higher energies of the Universe.
